Stacey Hagen

Missouri is in critical condition.

I'm here to shock the system.

Hello, I'm Stacey Hagen.

I'm asking for your vote for State Representative in MO House District 111 because we deserve better than we're getting from our Missouri lawmakers.

I am not a politician. I'm a nurse and an educator and I'm tired of feeling like my MO lawmakers are trying to trick me and every voter in MO every chance they get. I look around and see how MO politicians are causing real problems for my neighbors, my friends, and my family. Our public servants should be solving our problems, not becoming one of them. As a nurse, I know issues can't be resolved without getting to the heart of the matter. That starts with listening to the people. I'm running because we deserve serious leaders who focus on the real challenges we face. Not make-believe problems designed to divide and distract us. MO politicians have us feeling like our voice, our vote, and our needs don't matter. That's wrong. I'm here to fill the people's house with the people's voice because your voice matters.

I was born in St. Louis, MO. My family lived below the poverty line and moved around a lot during my childhood, but I lived in North County most of my life. I moved to Byrnes Mill, MO in 2012 and still live there with my husband and 2 very spoiled rescue dogs. I became a mother at a very young age. I continued to live below the poverty line for the first several years as a single mom. Out of the desire to be a good example for my child and create a better life for both of us, I went to college. I began my college education at Florissant Valley Community College. I transferred to UMSL's College of Nursing where I enrolled in their accelerated nursing program. I graduated with highest honors from UMSL with a bachelor's degree in nursing. I was fortunate enough to start my career in a specialty area, high risk labor and delivery at Barnes Hospital. I began teaching other nurses how to do my job just a year into my nursing career. I was working as a triage nurse within two years. I loved teaching so much, I went back to school to get my master's degree in nursing education. I have been teaching the next generation of nurses for nearly 17 years. I have always had a desire to help others. Some of the people I most admire have dedicated their lives to servant leadership. Being a single mother while working and going to school I fully understand the real struggles working families face on a day to day basis. Being a nurse and an educator has taught me to solve problems efficiently, with limited resources. My desire to help others extends to my community. I have spent time as a volunteer in multiple roles. From trail building, fostering dogs, helping adaptive athletes challenge themselves, and organizing to stand up for the rights of Missourians, I understand the importance of putting the work in and filling the gaps were the needs exist.

Missourians Deserve Better

There are a lot of people in Missouri who are worried about where things are headed in our state. Hospitals are closing, schools are shortening the school week, kids are going hungry, people are struggling to pay their bills and can't afford housing. All because of politicians who think their job is to parent us rather than represent us. Who has been running the Show Me State for the past 20 plus years? It's time to invest in us. And that starts with a shift in leadership. It's madness to continue to do what we've been doing and expect change. The time to do something is now.

Kids Reading Together

Missouri's Backbone

I want to be clear about something. What lifted me out of poverty was a good education. Hard work and quality education lead to citizens who thrive rather than struggling just to survive. A good education, hard work, and discipline allowed me to become the nurse leader I am today. That has ripple effects in our community. I get to share my knowledge, my lived experiences,  as well as my nursing experiences. I get to watch my students grow into knowledgeable, skillful, critical thinkers who then enter the workforce. They go out into our community as competent nurses to care for all of us. That all starts with funding our public schools. Public schools are the backbone of our towns. Every one of our children, regardless of where they live or their life circumstances deserves a quality education. Working families pay taxes so that their children, through hard work and dedication, have the same start in life no matter their zip code. Ask yourself, are the rich kids in MO asked to go to school 4 days a week?

Our children deserve better.

The American Dream

I don’t have to tell you. You already know. Life is expensive. And, it’s only getting worse. I’m side-eyeing those digital numbers as I drive by the gas station, wondering if I should fill up today or chance it and wait till tomorrow. Where is all our money going? Groceries are more expensive. Clothing costs more. Household goods cost more. As we walk through the store aisles or scroll those previously bought items on our phone, we see it with our own eyes. Prices on things we have been buying, our staple goods, they’re going up. Car parts, home repairs/projects, utilities, rent, they all cost more.

The nurse in me can't ignore the impact rising costs have on people's health. I saw firsthand what happens when people put off going to the doctor. Delays in care mean people get sicker, have worse outcomes, and higher costs. That affects all of us. Sick employees affect businesses. Sick family members can have financial consequences for the family, not to mention the emotional toll.

The reality right now, for many people, is we are delaying our healthcare. I hear friends and family talk about not getting the recommended checkups they need because of rising costs. How many times have you put off going to the doctor because you can’t afford getting another bill in the mail? The rising cost of living, along with rising healthcare costs, have us prioritizing one need over another. Checkups are not a priority when you’re struggling to put food on the table. Getting a much needed prescription filled is much harder to do when you're watching the numbers on the gas pump tick higher and higher.

And what are MO lawmakers doing about it? What have they done to protect the hardworking people in this state who struggle every day to keep up with the burden of the high cost of living? They told us too bad. You want a liveable wage? You want to be able to afford providing a roof over your family’s head? They do not care. Last year, our MO lawmakers worked really hard to ensure people don’t earn a liveable wage. Their policies are making us sicker. Then they had the audacity to use our tax dollars to make sure we can't have EARNED paid sick time. Ask yourself, who does this serve? Who is really running the Show Me State?

The American Dream means prosperity for hard work. We are doing our part. How can we pull ourselves up by our bootstraps when we can’t earn enough to afford the damn boots.

The government owes us the protection of our life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness. It's not a favor. It’s their damn job! MO lawmakers are robbing us of our liberty, our pursuit of happiness, and our freedom.

We deserve better.

Dark Money

We have a big problem with dark money paying off our politicians in Missouri. One example is our lawmakers accepting money from organizations funded by billionaires. Their main goal is to take money from our kids' public schools and give it to private & religious schools.  One of those billionaire funded organizations paid a lot of money to remove the last Rep. in my district who supported public schools. They replaced him with their paid puppet, my opponent, Cecelie Williams. Most of us Missourians are not billionaires. But, we are hard working and we pay our taxes for services that serve us all. Billionaires don't do that. We Missourians look out for each other. We mow the grass for our elderly neighbor. We make meals for one another when we're going through a tough time. We do this because doing so holds up the long held American value that united we are strong. Billionaires don't do that. What billionaires do serves billionaires. They use AI to cut costs, then cut our jobs. They sign NDAs with our politicians so we can't see how badly their agreements will really harm us. They pay off politicians so they can control what our kids learn. Our politicians should be listening to us, putting our needs first. But, they're not. They're putting dark money first. They're putting billionaires first. And we are left to fend for ourselves. Our lawmakers should be looking out for OUR best interests. They are not.

We deserve better.

People Power

Are you tired of Missouri politicians treating you like you need permission from them to live your life? Are you tired of them using confusing language on the ballot so you vote the way they want you to rather than how you want to vote based on your values? One Missouri Rep. went as far as to liken us to teenagers who shouldn't be allowed access to the checking account. Excuse me. Then, last year our lawmakers, spending our tax dollars, spent the session overturning things a majority of Missourians voted for. Maybe you didn't like some of the things that got passed. That's okay. We don't always agree on everything, but as patriotic Americans, we all can agree that every vote should count. That's the reason I've spent the last year working in the community to safeguard the voice of the people. I worked with several organizations gathering signatures to prevent lawmakers from overturning our vote, trying to confuse us on the ballot, and to protect our state from gerrymandering, which should hold no place in a fair democracy. I have worked with thousands of volunteers to safeguard the power of the people. I will continue to uphold the voice of the people as state rep.

Voters deserve better.

It's time to demand better.

Stand with Stacey

This is a moment that calls on all of us to get more involved, disrupt the status quo, and bring real change to Missouri. I am eager to put in the hard work out on the campaign trail, but I'm going to need your support along the way.

Folks, help me introduce these crooked politicians to the "Find Out" phase.

Just a reminder. I am not a politician. I haven’t been groomed to campaign for this seat. I’m just a regular person living in JeffCo who has had it with MO politicians. I may not say everything perfectly, but I’m going to show up in this campaign the way I wish the people who represent us would show up, as my authentic self. I’m a direct person. If you think I’m going to walk a line to earn a vote, you’re about to get your feelings hurt. I’m not interested in holding back. I’m not about the bullshit. The people of MO are pissed. I am too and I’m not here to play games.
